We are about to transition from an 18-month period of having the transiting north node in Pisces, to the next 18 months of north node in Aquarius.
The North Node and the South Node are the 2 points located at the axes where the ecliptic crosses the equator of Earth. The ecliptic is the path of the sun, like a ribbon around the earth which is the zodiac, containing the 12 signs. In western astrology, from the earth centered perspective, each sign is 30 degrees and all the planets and the moon travel within that ribbon.
These 2 points are also known as the Dragon’s Head and the Dragon’s Tail. The Dragon’s Head (north node) is the axis located in the northern hemisphere and the Dragon’s Tail is exactly opposite in the southern hemisphere. What’s peculiar about these transiting points is that they travel backwards through the signs. It takes 18 ½ years for the nodes to complete a full cycle around the zodiac.
The word mundane comes from the latin word mundo which is the world. Mundane Astrology looks at how transits and aspects affect the world as a whole. In mundane astrology the North Node is interpreted as the collective conscious’ current and future-oriented focus, while the south node is past experience, habitual behavior, old ways and outmoded ideas.
The last time that we experienced the North Node in Aquarius and South Node in Leo was December 2007 until August 2009. This was almost exactly the time period that we now call The Great Recession. It was 2007 when Al Gore tried to convince us that climate change (once called global warming) was our fault, due to car emissions and methane. Now we are aware of HAARP and other ways that our weather is manipulated. This was a good example of the inflated importance of the individual (leo) in polarity with technology (aquarius) as manipulator of weather and also the perceived solution, i.e. expensive technical equipment. The earth is going through a huge transformation, as is the sun and our whole solar system – this is part of our climate. Like so many beliefs and theories injected into the collective pool, this deception brought about many changes, rules and financial hardships that continue in our lives today. I-phones appeared in 2007 as well as the movie Wall-E. GW Bush is famous for the $B700 bank bailout and other shenanigans. 2008 was all about Obama. In 2009 many $millions went into developing a cell-based flu shot and the infamous Gardasil. Will history repeat itself? The North and South nodes represent the subject matter – what we are thinking about during this 18-month period. Aquarius says “who are we?” while Leo says “who am I?” So we are leaving behind the I-me-mine drama, the pomp of kings and gurus. We have seen the demise of Hollywood and the decline of theatres. We now know that cell phones (aquarius) are the most sophisticated and all-encompassing form of surveillance. Wall-E illustrates the folly of losing ourselves in technology (aquarius). We have learned to diversify and not depend solely on the banks. Doctors, leaders and gurus would be nothing without us. It is time to revise the mandate and renew the high ideal of equality.
A really good illustration of South Node in Leo is the movie Little Miss Sunshine. This is the innocent youth (Leo) being put on stage and asked to fulfill an adult dream. It’s about a competition gone wild where the precious unique unfolding imagination is lost in a maze of parlor tricks and makeup.
South node in Leo is also about leadership, creativity, royalty and heroes. We are seeing these things in the rear-view mirror. Now we can appreciate the true essence. What is admirable and heroic about leadership? What is fulfilling and life-affirming about creativity? I recently called to mind the book “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”. The care and attention to detail that is perceived in a work of art takes us to another dimension. Just stand in a beautifully cared-for garden, admire a glistening, pristine restored old car or get lost in the detail of a display of hand-made jewelry. It brings a calm, even restful feeling. I am sad that everything is turning into a one-size-fits-all generic 2 dimensions. The synapses are dulled, the inspiration is hushed.
Now we can take advantage of perspective with the fresh focus on Aquarian values, such as freedom, equality, sovereignty and community. It is often the essential innocence of the child (leo) that exposes neglected flaws when he calls out “the Emperor has no clothes”.
Coming out of the polarity of Pisces/Virgo that we have experienced in the last 18 months, we can leave behind the lower octave qualities of Virgo – like criticism, getting lost in the details, hypochondria and serving others at our own expense. We might have realized that spirituality (pisces) is a higher calling than trying to figure out the details of our crazy world. The math doesn’t work out.
With the north node in Pisces, we might have been more aware of other planes of existence, secret societies, grizzly underground goings-on, mass media, drugs, vaccines, storms and floods. Moving from Pisces into Aquarius is a sharp elemental shift. In 1952, when this shift occurred, King George VI passed and Queen Elizabeth took the throne.
Upon this shift in 1970 feminists in London protested the Miss World Pageant. In 1990 Estonia declared independence from the Soviet Union. A very moving film about this is called The Singing Revolution. This is a great example of grokking the Leo leadership concept and putting hearts and voices together for a collective cause.
As the end of July approaches like a freight train, we may leave behind Pisces uncertainties and look more towards Aquarian group activities. Leaving Virgo criticisms we will see more clearly in hindsight things like using children for personal gain, competition versus cooperation, creativity thrown over for mass production.
In an ideal world I would hope that circles, committees and town halls sprout up, to talk about sharing, trading, speaking up and doing things together. In the last 18 months many outrageous and shocking secrets have been disclosed. The (pisces) man behind the curtain has been exposed. The gig is up. Those stuffed shirts in the big office (leo) are not the answer to your better life – you are. Aquarius could take us virtually flying into AI madness. David Wilcock taught about The Law of One, which is very similar to A Course in Miracles. He would say, “there is only one of us here”. This is a reference to the idea that it is YOUR movie (pisces). What group activity (aquarius) do you want to “deep focus” (Leo) in the coming months?
In 2027 (tomorrow) the north node will move into Capricorn (south node Cancer). This could very well be austerity/safety concerns, but it could also be accepting responsibility and taking care with compassion… of all the Cancer things like home, mother and water. Another scenario for Capricorn/Cancer is about time and history. There is information coming through now that suggests we were a thriving, advanced society not that long ago… revelations coming soon.
Today we have a new moon in Cancer. At the same time, mercury is moving retrograde through Cancer. Notice the sweetness of Cancer, the joys of water, the tears and nostalgia, feelings of compassion and fading memories. New Moon is a great time for seeding and Cancer is very receptive.
