Venus the pentagram, so bright, rising and falling, here and gone……….
There are so many specialties and areas to drill down in the study of astrology. I recently took some time to dive into The Venus Star Point. This is different from the placement of venus in your chart by sign and house. Our earth travels around the sun in a counter clockwise direction, as do all the planets in our solar system. From our perspective on earth, the sun is moving clockwise. At the same time each planet rotates on its axis in a counter clockwise direction, except for venus. Well, Uranus is also an exception, since its axis is sideways. Without getting into the weeds too much, venus’ orbit around the sun is 225 earth days. Venus rotates on its axis very slowly, making one rotation in 243 earth days. Relative to the sun, if you were standing on Venus, it would take 117 earth days for the sun to rise in the west, set in the east and then rise again.
Because venus has the most circular orbit of all the planets, the track she makes is easily measureable and constant. The synodic cycle (venus orbit) describes her relationship with the sun as seen from earth. Her entire cycle takes 584 days. Because of the fact that she travels close to the sun, we only ever see her as a morning star or an evening star. When she lines up in front of the sun or behind, then she is invisible from our perspective. She meets up with the sun every 9.2 months. We call this The Kiss.
So the fun part about venus’ journey is that it is so rhythmic, repeatable and geometric. Over a period of 8 years she draws 2 superimposed 5 pointed stars (a pentagram) on the zodiac wheel. Not exact to the minute, but close enough so that over time, like an etcha-sketch, she will trace out a geometric image of a rose. So, for instance the last kiss with the sun was June 4, 2024 at 14 degrees Gemini. We are currently able to see her as an evening star, setting just after the sun. For children born since June 4, that Gemini point is their Venus Star Point. Venus will get closer and closer to alignment with the sun, until on March 22, 2025 there will be another Kiss at 2 degrees Aries. This point now becomes the right arm of the star for infants born in the previous 9 months and the top point of the star for children born in 2025. The star will change incrementally, with each point spending about 100 years in an astrological sign.
So much meaning and energetic vibration can be derived from this phenomenon. The venus cycle divided by earth’s cycle is 1.6, which is phi and the 5th harmonic. The 5 points of the star relate to the 5th house of children and creativity, also Leo – The Heart. The 5:8 ratio is significant in sacred geometry, study of pyramids, etc. Considering the wider range of the whole zodiac, solar system and larger time frame, Venus takes on a more spiritual, esoteric definition. We can track through history the social mores, events and proclivities of certain periods as the Venus Star somersaults around the zodiac. For instance the Gemini Venus point was in effect in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. Gemini is duality, polarity, news and conversation, music, propaganda, breathing, writing, listening., the mind. There has certainly been a focus on the two party system, information overload, toxins in the air, big choices, big news, maybe a protest song or two.
This way of looking at venus is actually multi-dimensional. In the traditional astro reading, the placement of venus might describe your values, women in your life, money, love and art. In Vedic interpretation, she is given more guile and manipulative qualities, able to wheel and deal, make investments and adjust holdings. I am looking forward to delving deeper than just the idea of “net worth versus self worth”. Will the children born in 2024 bring us a new kind of music? or a language? I would like a new kind of phone.
Looking forward to the new Venus Star Point, when venus conjoins the Sun and we have what is called retrograde venus for 40 days. This happens every 1.6 years. Just a regular astrology reading with venus retrograde would talk about cleaning out your closet, reviewing a budget, researching facelifts or a do-over, holding a sale, reducing prices. While all of that still stands, this new information is going to add some fiery energy to 2025. Aries, especially early degrees, will mean new beginnings, initiations, action and leadership. There is a first time for everything and there will be lots of them. With all the other changes coming through other planets, I have a feeling that 2025 is going to fly by. Peeking ahead, 2026 kicks off with Venus star Point in Capricorn. That is building, foundations, businesses, walls and boundaries. Children born that year will be solid, dependable, hard-working and capable.
