Today we have a new moon in 28 degrees Capricorn – a Saturn-ruled sign. In the past month we have been in the energies of practicality, responsibility and cold facts. January is often a time of reviewing the budget, list of supplies and commitments. This new moon can be a grounding cord, a boundary marker or an asterisk on the calendar for future reference, as tomorrow we launch into Aquarius and a very different energy of change, community and new ideas. The controlled reality of Capricorn fades and the moon, then the sun, venus, mars and mercury all make their way into the more freedom-loving sign of Aquarius. This is a powerful stellium (collection) of planets moving together.
In Hellenistic and older origins, Saturn has rulership over Capricorn and Aquarius. Modern astrology gives Uranus domain over Aquarius. In the past week or two we have had 6 planets and 4 asteroids scrunched up in these signs, while Saturn himself is uncomfortably visiting Jupiter’s sign of Pisces. Saturn likes a regimen, Jupiter likes to overindulge – awkward. There is a very creative isosceles triangle formed between Uranus at 27 taurus, Saturn at 27 pisces and this group all around the new moon at 28 capricorn. The elements are lots of earth and a little water, suggesting a slow and purposeful molding of clay, or planting seeds for the future. The Capricorn team works with saturn’s parameters and the potential of Uranus.
Saturn is about delays and obstacles. The actual planet itself is going through changes. I have read that the rings disappeared recently in November, also that the northern axis has changed color. There is speculation and plenty of propaganda, so it is best to let Time reveal the truth. Like so many things we have been told about our reality, time itself is malleable and fluctuating in our experience and understanding. So then, it makes sense that Father Time (Saturn) might be having a makeover… Some think of Saturn as dark, even evil. The word is very close to satan. Astrologers call him a malefic, meaning when Saturn comes to town (i.e. aspects points in your chart), bad things happen. It is my opinion that we create our own reality. I like Saturn for making it real. Without the edge, the time-frame and the solid structure, it would be difficult to ground, keep track or make plans. Saturn is the moment when the rubber meets the road, when you find yourself between a rock and a hard place, or you start humming the tune to “50 ways to leave your lover”.
On February 17, we will have a New Moon Eclipse at 28 degrees of Aquarius. By then, all of these personal planets will have stumbled past Pluto – the planet of transformation – so by the time we get to February 20th and the much talked-about conjunction of Saturn and Neptune, these planets: the sun=vitality, the moon=feelings, mercury=communication, venus=love, and mars=strength….will all have had a wardrobe change. These personal planets affect us in a visceral way every day, while the outer planets are experienced more like the weather.
The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon Eclipse on February 17 is “A butterfly emerging from a chrysalis”. The capacity to utterly transform the character of one’s consciousness by radically altering the structural patterns of everyday living and the types of relationships one enters upon. Keyword: Metamorphosis. It suggests that after a critical stage of transition, any human being has the ability to participate in a higher realm of evolution. The chart for this eclipse is very positive, with venus, north node and mercury feeling good in pisces and making a friendly handshake with Jupiter.
Capricorn can be cold and hard, lonely too. The time of long nights is important for soul-searching and prioritizing. Time spent alone is well-used when we acknowledge our feelings, our path, accomplishments and failures. What lies ahead is uncharted in general terms. But really, astrologers have little historical reference for these aspects coming around the corner. We are the creators and hopefully we will rise to the occasion, raising frequencies, speaking truth to power and holding intentions for peace, healing and evolving.
It has occurred to me that the forces of control that still challenge our peace, also will experience a surge of energy. The cabalist web of control is weakening, but this can also bring desperate measures. Saturn and Neptune together in Aries mean the initiation of the dissolution of control. It also means initiating secret or deceptive control measures. Saturn is weak in Aries. He needs time and Aries is right now. So Neptune is the boss and while that can be unrealistic – even diabolical – Neptune is spirit, the dream, the imagination and the unworldly.
Right now, as we move into Aquarius, we can use the fresh potential of the new moon and innovative idealism of the entry into Aquarius to clear the air. Aquarius is the third air sign in the zodiac, ruling humanitarianism, collectives, networking, air waves and electricity. More and more fully, we are moving into the Age of Aquarius – harmony and understanding. Did you ever notice that the glyphs for the air signs feature 2 lines. Gemini=twins, libra=balance, aquarius=airwaves. All three have a similar expression of this side/that side. For Gemini it comes up in conversation, such as I speak/you speak, left side/right side. In Libra it is about justice, fair share, mine/yours. In Aquarius it is best understood in the world of electricity, i.e. positive and negative charge. The world of electricity, technology, energy, quantum physics, and harmonics, to name a few, are fields that have advanced so much more than we know. Much will be revealed in the coming year. But here we begin, tuning into the airwaves, telepathic channels, psychic downloads and epiphanies as we have a month to get a physical take on the vibes of Aquarius.
I made a promise to myself and often need reminders, to keep my frequency high. I’ve seen the budget, the time frame and all the things getting bad and worse. I expect a year of massive change, upheaval and surprises. Grounded? Check. Frequency high? Check. The best part is knowing that there are so many souls on this great Earth who are also keeping their frequency high in so many wonderful ways. We came here for a reason. This is it.
