Chiron is such an interesting feature in the natal chart. This comet/asteroid was discovered in 1977, just when alternative healing and supplements were getting popular. As much of astrology is based on mythology, there is great wealth of detail to draw on for interpretation. He is certainly a maverick who thinks outside the box and finds a way, compassionately and wisely. In general, Chiron is the wound of your life and the key to your life, but how do you navigate from one to the other? This mythological character, who was half God and half Centaur had a fascinating, rich life that began with a wounding and ended due to a wound. Rejected by his mother, Chiron was adopted by Apollo, who taught him many skills, arts and sciences. He went on to become a great sage and teacher of archery, medicine, music, math, astrology and much more. He married Chariklo and they had several children. His students loved him and many became great heroes themselves. Many of the Gods left their children in his care and they benefited from his vast knowledge. Some were orphans, cast-outs or sickly. And so his attributes included fostering, parenting, specializing and mentoring. Chiron is half asteroid and half comet, half God and half Centaur, half man and half horse.
So we can relate to the Chiron in our chart in so many ways. Would you like to achieve mastery in some area of life? Have you known a special mentor? Are you a teacher? Are there 2 parts to you?
The next thing to consider is that aside from his spot in your birth chart, Chiron moves around the zodiac on a trip that takes about 50 years. So all of these things will come and go over time, zoom in and fade out. On average he spends 4 years in a sign although he stayed in the sign of Aires from 1968 – 1976. He is in Aries again now since 2018 for an approx 8-year stay.
It is a good time to give Chiron his due as the wise sage who knew pain and yet also wisdom, integrity and sophistication. There is a Solar eclipse on April 8 that is looking quite powerful. Eclipses can often bring in events that have a lasting effect. It’s a new moon and that is already the beginning of a cycle. The trippy part is that the sun, moon and Chiron are all exactly at the same point, to the minute. The Sabian Symbol for this point has a chironic feel to it. “A young girl feeding birds in winter.” -overcoming crises through compassion. .. So overcoming some of the harsher times in life and transmuting it through an act of love.
At this moment in time, with 6 planets and points in Aries, there is potential to elevate the Arian qualities to a higher plane. These include courage, charisma, passion, leadership, bigheartedness, fun, initiating a new way – a better way. The glyph for Chiron is a key. One imagines Alice twisting the key and unlocking a whole new timeline, perspective, a new project or simply a different attitude.
And so leading up to that Solar eclipse, when the moon (representing the past) steps in front of the Sun (present) we can gather up those old ways of looking at life, grudges, resentments, judgments, mistakes and think about whether we want to take them through that door.
Coming up is the ingress of the Sun into Aries. We are finishing up another journey through the seasons. Aries spring time brings new growth, more light, days full of promise. It usually comes around March 20; this year in the evening at 8:06pm, March 19. I have found it to be a useful exercise to make 3 wishes or intentions for the coming cycle. Start something new on March 19 – a seed, a poem – and see how it flourishes.
Then on March 25th we have a Lunar Eclipse at 0:05am. This full moon eclipse is at 5 degrees Libra. Libra moon is a great time to balance relationships. The 2 luminaries are bringing things to light. What is called for is fair conversation, negotiation, give and take, pass the feather. What is eclipsed now is the past, as the earth overshadows it, bringing relationships into present time. We see it, we work on it, and then when we get to the new moon, we are ready with a clean slate, to act, respond and get it in gear.
